DESCRIPTION
Giuseppe Mazzuoli, known as “Il Vecchio”, was the most important Sienese sculptor of the 17th century and certainly the most prolific, very active in particular for Cardinal Chigi. It can be assumed that these delightful maternal ovals were conceived for private devotion, perhaps in anticipation of a larger work.
Two ovals depicting “Madonna with Child and Saints Catherine and Ansanus” and “Holy Family with Saint Bernardino”
