DESCRIPTION
The son of a Flemish father, but growing up and living in Rome, Filippo Lauri best interprets the figure of the multifaceted artist capable of single-handedly breaking the moulds of pictorial genres. Initially known for his figurative output, it is only in recent times that his naturalistic works have been rediscovered. The emergence of two signed paintings has made it possible to combine them with other similar examples, all characterised by the repetition of fruit models juxtaposed in the manner typical of Roman production of the second half of the 17th century, among which the still life presented here is an outstanding example.
