DESCRIPTION
This portrait belongs to the group of paintings in the Carrara Academy in Bergamo as well as in other public and private collections that bear the date 1633, two of which represent members of the Bonometti family and two others the Benvenuti couple. It is an interesting group of works of a specific individual, whose name is not yet known, and may not be an Italian, but who was active in Italy as the work illustrates a knowledge of Domenico Fetti (who was active in Mantua and Venice) and of Bernardo Strozzi. This painting shares with the paintings in the group a confident layout in terms both of the drawing and the pictorial texture, a remarkable sensitivity to light and a warm palette.
